Sitter is designed to help parents book their own sitters within seconds, connect with friends to grow their team of trusted sitters, pay their sitters instantly and store critical information at their trusted sitter’s fingertips.

How do I download the Sitter app?

Sitter is available for download on iPhone (iOS7 or newer) in the App Store and available for Android in the Google Play Store.

Already have Sitter? Make sure your app is up to date, you don’t want to miss out on any new features that have been released!

How do I register as a parent?
  1. Download the mobile app from the App Store.
  2. Tap “Join” or “Join with Facebook”.
  3. Enter your email address and a password.
  4. Select “Parent”.
  5. Tap “Join”.

How do I get started as a babysitter?

Once you have registered with Sitter, you’re all set. You can add or invite the families you already sit for, add or invite your friends and begin growing your circle of connections. Don’t have anyone to connect to? No problem, you can also search for families near you.

Why does sitter ask to access my contacts and photos?

When you install Sitter on your device, you’ll see contextual dialogs asking you to approve access to your contacts and photos. Allowing these permissions will ensure you have the best possible experience with Sitter.

Why does Sitter need permission to send push notifications?

When you install Sitter on your device, you’ll see contextual dialogs asking you to approve certain permissions that the app requests. Allowing these permissions will ensure you have the best possible experience with Sitter. Push notifications keep you up to date with your sitters, bookings, payments and more.

How do I update, add or delete my credit card?

In the app:

  1. Open the main menu in the top-left corner of the app.
  2. Tap “Edit Profile”
  3. Scroll down to “Your Payment Methods”

From here, you can update, add, or delete a credit card.

How do I reset my password?

To reset your password:

  1. Tap “Forgot Password” on the Log In screen.
  2. A temporary password will be sent to you via email.
  3. Go back into the app and enter your temporary password on the Log In screen.
  4. Then you will be prompted to reset your password.

If you are currently logged into the app, log out by accessing your Profile and tapping “Log Out”.

How do I cancel my account?

You can delete your account in the app. Follow these steps:

  1. Open the app.
  2. From the main menu, go to your profile.
  3. Tap “Account”
  4. Tap “Cancel Your Sitter Account”.

What is Sitter?

Sitter is an app that allows parents to book and pay their own babysitters. Connect with friends and form a completely private network to exchange babysitter information. Have no one to connect to? Search for babysitters near you!

For babysitters, it enables them to better manage their babysitting business by managing their bookings and payments and getting more clients easily and safely through word-of-mouth referrals from the families they already work for.

My teenager just received a text from Sitter — what is this?

A parent using Sitter has invited your child to join the app.  Sitter is an app that allows parents to easily book the babysitters they use by sending a single message to all of their sitters at once. The first one to accept, gets the job. Their information is completely private and never shared publicly.

What does Sitter cost?

Sitter is completely free to download.

You can add your own babysitters, send booking requests, connect with friends and share sitters — all for free. To pay your sitters through the app, expand your list of sitters outside of your connections or store critical information (emergency contacts, allergies & more) you need to be a Premium or Platinum subscriber.

Do people see my personal information?

No information is publicly available. Unlike some other babysitter sites, we do not display any information publicly. Sitter is a private network of your friends and babysitters. We are built completely on a foundation of privacy and trust.

Do you background check the babysitters?

Anyone can sign up for Sitter — we do not require a background check. Although, background checks are available through the app. Parents can purchase a background check for their sitters or babysitters can purchase a background check for themselves. If a sitter has purchased a background check for themselves, a badge will appear in their profile.

We don’t provide babysitters. But, we provide you two ways to quickly and easily find babysitters.

How do I add my babysitters?

Under “My Sitters” in the main menu, you can add sitters a few different ways. Add your sitters manually, from your contacts, find sitters through friends or find sitters near you.

What happens when I add a babysitter?

Once you add a babysitter from your contacts, you can send them a booking request immediately. They don’t need the app because we use text messaging for booking notifications. And, they don’t need to confirm your relationship since you already had their contact information – we assume they know you.

If you add a sitter though friends or your neighborhood, the sitter will have the option confirm the connection and be added to your list of sitters.

How do I book a sitter?

In order to book a sitter, you need at least one sitter in your list. Tap “Book a Sitter” select the date, time and hit send. The first sitter to accept the job, gets it!

How do I connect with friends?
  1. Open the main menu in the top-left corner of the app.
  2. Tap “My Friends”.
  3. Tap the “+” icon in the top-right corner of your sitter list.

Begin adding friends from your contacts and expanding your connections!

How do I add sitters from friends?

It’s easy! Once you have connected with friends, you can search for sitters within your network. Tap “My Sitters” then tap the red “+” in the top-right corner of the screen, then “Find Sitters Through Friends” and from there you can introduce yourself to sitters in your network.

Can I send a request to babysitters based on a priority ranking?

It’s not currently possible to send a booking request to sitters on a priority basis. You can select or deselect any of your sitters when creating the booking. Start with your favorites. If the sitters decline the request or don’t respond you can always tap “Send to More Sitters” and send the request to your remaining sitters.

Do I need to tip my babysitter?

Tipping a babysitter is solely at your discretion. If your babysitter did a good job, we recommend you tip them when you pay them through the app. Remember, babysitting is a business.

Can I reimburse my sitter for expenses (e.g. pizza or gas)?

Yep! When you pay a sitter through the app, there will be an opportunity to add any additional reimbursements or a tip. Simply enter the additional amount you would like to add to the base rate for their service.

Can I pay the sitter a different rate than they have in their profile?

If you have worked out a different rate for your sitter other than what they have posted in their profile, you can make that adjustment in the payment process.

Can I schedule a recurring (weekly, monthly, etc.) booking with my sitter?

Yes, you can! Create a booking as you normally would. Select the date and time. On the Booking Options screen, tap “Repeat”. Then select the days you want to repeat it and when you want it to end. That’s it!

Can I keep my babysitter a secret?

You can hide a sitter, yes. To do so, go to their sitter profile in My Sitters and tap “Hide sitter from friends”.

When I add my sitter, will their information be public?

No! We do not sell or share your babysitter’s information. We never make any information available publicly. This is a private network of you and your babysitters. When you add them as a sitter, it is like adding them to your phone contact list.

Does my babysitter need the app in order for me to book them?

Nope! We want Sitter to be as useful as possible for parents – that means being able to use Sitter with all of your babysitters, not just the ones who use Sitter. As long as your babysitter is able to receive text messages, you can book that sitter through the app.

How do I find new babysitters?

You can find new babysitters two ways: through your network or in your neighborhood.

I just signed up, but I don’t see any sitters.

Sitter can be used to book and pay the babysitters you already use and find new babysitters.

If you already have babysitters, then you’ll need to add them!  It’s completely private. See Adding my babysitters for more information.

If you need to find babysitters, then you’ll need to either add friends to see their sitters or find sitters near you!

If you’ve looked for sitters near you but you don’t see any, it may be because we haven’t launched in your area yet. You can help kickstart it by inviting your friends to join Sitter!

How do I update the default number of children?
  1. Open the main menu in the top corner of the app.
  2. At the top of the main menu, tap your profile photo to view your profile settings.
  3. Tap the “Children” field.
  4. Enter the correct number of children.
  5. Tap “Update”.
How do I update or delete an address?

In the app:

  1. Open the main menu in the top corner of the app.
  2. At the top of the main menu, tap your profile photo to view your profile settings.
  3. Scroll down to “Your Addresses”.

From here, you can change or delete an existing address in addition to adding a new address.

How do I pay my sitter?

If your babysitter has joined Sitter and has enabled online payments, it is super easy to pay them at the end of the night.

First, you need to make sure you have added a payment method to your account. See Add, Update, or Remove a Credit Card for more information.

At the end of a booking, you can tap “Pay Emily” and Sitter will do all of the work for you!

How do I cancel a booking?

Before canceling, keep in mind that it is always nice to give at least 24 hours notice.

  1. Open the main menu in the top corner of the app.
  2. Tap “My Bookings”.
  3. Tap the booking you would like to cancel.
  4. Tap “Cancel Booking”.
  5. Enter a message for your sitter to let them know why you’re canceling.
  6. Tap “Submit”.
  7. A message will be sent to your sitter(s) to let them know you’ve canceled.
  8. Your canceled booking will appear in your “Previous” list on your Bookings screen.
How do I edit an existing booking?
  1. Open the main menu in the top corner of the app.
  2. Tap “My Bookings”.
  3. Tap the booking you would like to update.
  4. Tap “Edit”.
  5. A message will be sent to your sitter(s) to let them know you’ve updated the booking.
  6. Your updated booking will remain on your “Current” bookings screen.

I’m a babysitter and just received a text from Sitter — What is this?

A family you babysit for has added you to their list of trusted babysitters on Sitter. Your contact information is completely private and never shared with anyone.

What does Sitter cost?

Sitter is completely free to download. Add your existing families, connect with friends, get paid within 2-3 business days, and expand your network through your connections — all for free. To contact families outside of your connections or receive the Premium Badge, you need to be a Premium subscriber.

Can new families find me like care.com?

If you are over the age of 18, you have the option to have a public profile. From there, families within a set radius can contact you to sit for their family. You always have the option to connect with them or not.

What happens when I add a family?

Sitter is built on a foundation of privacy and trust. Do not worry – when you add a client’s contact information in Sitter, it is not shared with anyone.

Here’s what happens when you add a client in Sitter.

  1. Select their name(s) from your contact list. We do not access any other contacts in your list.
  2. Once selected, hit “Next”. We’ll bring up a pre-populated text message for you to send.
  3. We will send them a reminder 7 days later if they have not joined.
  4. We will never contact them again after the reminder. We will never share their information. We will never send them marketing information or anything else.
Can I charge different rates to different clients?

Yes, you can charge different rates to different clients, however, there is not a way to specify this in your profile. If you would like to charge a client a different rate than what is posted in your profile, you will have to have that conversation with them prior to a booking. If you accept payment through the app, remind the parent to change the hourly rate as they are going through the payment process. It is easy for them to do so. On the confirmation screen after stopping the timer, they can edit your hourly rate.

What should I charge?

Babysitting rates vary based on where you live, how much experience you have, and how many kids you are watching. The average babysitting rate across the nation is $13.50.

Do I need to join Sitter in order to receive requests?

Nope! Babysitters do not need to be on the app in order for a parent to book you. You will continue to receive text messages and can reply accordingly.

Do people see my personal information?

No information is publicly available. Once you are connected to a client, they can see the basic information in your profile.  Your address and date of birth are not available to anyone.

Can I send a job request to families looking for a babysitter?

You can definitely contact families looking for a babysitter but our model is based on relationships, not specific jobs. You’ll introduce yourself to families in your network or area and have an in-app chat. Then, if you like them, you can send them an invitation to connect and start babysitting!

How do I add my clients (families)?

In the app:

  1. Open the main menu in the top-left corner of the screen.
  2. Tap “My Families”.
  3. Tap the “+” icon in the top-right corner of your sitter list.
  4. Select “Choose From Contacts”.
  5. Start adding your families.

No families to add? Find families through friends or in your neighborhood.

How do I update my profile information?

In the app:

  1. Open the main menu in the top left-hand corner of the app.
  2. At the top of the main menu, tap your profile photo to view your profile settings.
  3. Scroll down and tap on any field you need to update.

You can update your name (contact info), email address, phone number, profile photo, payment methods, etc.

How do I respond to a job (booking request)?

With Sitter, parents can send a job request out to all of their babysitters at once. The first to accept gets the job! You’ll get a booking request in the app and a text message. If you can do it, reply Y123 and you’ll secure the job! The family will be notified that you accepted and be thrilled.  You can also open the app and tap “Accept”.  Can’t do it? No problem. Decline the request in the app or reply via text message. A family always wants a response, even if you can’t take the job!

Using the App on the Job

On Sitter you can get directions to your job, keep track of time, access contact information, and see your client’s emergency contacts, allergies, bedtime routines and more. Always remember to be engaging with the family, hang up and hang out! 🙂
